Random facts

I was tagged by Deinera to do a meme. Hooray!

  1. The reason why I will never be considered a real gamer is because I am obsessed with Pokemon. No real gamer is as crazy about Pokemon as I am. Right now I’m listening to “Maemuki Rocket-Dan,” with a giant Infernape doll looming over me. Pokemon Pearl is in my DS, and I was in the middle of breeding up a batch of Chimchars to use on my team. In a background tab, I have various eBay listings open to see if I can get a good deal on Pokemon cards. Do you know what this is? This is a sickness, but I love it too much to seek help. RARIRURE ROKKETO-DAN!!!
  2. In a related vein, very few things cheer me up as much as Team Rocket. Every episode they get blown up, trampled, electrocuted, charred, and smushed. And for all their effort, they never gain the praise or respect that they so desperately want from their boss Giovanni. But does that stop them? NO! They keep trying to catch that yellow rat. Never mind Ash’s perseverance to become the Pokemon master, I think Team Rocket’s perseverance is more impressive. Plus TR is just so much hotter than the twerps. Right now I’m listening to this song on repeat because this is exactly what I need to get out of this slump. :P

Okay, I could keep talking about my disgusting love of Pokemon forever, so let’s start over.

  1. When I was in high school, I was so dark that I could pass for a Filipino or Hawaiian. Most people I met were shocked to find out I’m full Japanese. I would always delay telling them for as long as possible, like it was my own private joke.
  2. When I first got to intermediate school, my GT English teacher told my parents, right in front of me, that I would never amount to anything, and then told me to drop out of the GT program. Five years later, I’d graduate high school at the top of my class. Four years after that, I’d graduate college with an English degree, with a 3.9 GPA from the English department. I resent it when people assume I’m going to use my degree to be an English teacher, because I remember that teacher, and the last thing I want to do is follow in her footsteps.
  3. My eye is immediately drawn to things with a large, prominent hole in it. I can’t tear my eyes away. You know the rafflesia flower? I hate them because they seriously disturb me, all because of that giant hole in the middle.
  4. When I have to do math in my head, I always think of Tetris. So like if I think of 34+27, I think of a 4-block piece fitting into a row that already has 7 blocks. When a line “clears,” that’s ten, and whatever’s left over goes to the next line. So 34+27 would be 3 full lines + 2 full lines + 1 line + 1 leftover = 61. I know, I’m a freak.
  5. I never use the shift key to capitalize letters, I use the caps lock key. This has led to caps vs shift wars with my friends, who all think I’m a freak. :P But hey, I still type faster than a lot of people, so I win. I WIN, BITCHES! CAPS > SHIFT
  6. My favorite movie is the second Back to the Future movie, even though almost everyone I know thinks it’s the weakest of the trilogy. I want the self-drying jacket and the phone-glasses. The tacky holographic shark is also great. Obviously I’m a fan of kitsch.
  7. I used to really be into indie rock. Then I realized that indie is indie for a reason… because it’s largely terrible, pretentious, and insufferable.
  8. My second-favorite character from the Harry Potter series is Rita Skeeter. If JKR really does publish that encyclopedia that talks about what happened to all the characters after the last book, the first person I’m going to look up is Rita.
  9. I don’t like hanging around people who are really… witty, I guess is the word? Like they have some wry tongue-in-cheek comeback to everything, like they read way too much fucking Questionable Content and just regurgitate lines from the strip. You know what I’m talking about. They have that little half-smile-half-smirk as they utter their stupid witticisms. Ugh. I like the people, I just can’t stand the way they talk.
  10. Even though I hate witty banter, I love Seinfeld and Frasier. Also, I hate Friends. DON’T MURDER ME, YOU KNOW AS WELL AS I DO THAT THE SHOW SUCKS.
  11. I have a crush on Ishida Akira. I don’t care that he’s nearly twenty years older than me. I would watch Speed Racer with him. I… I don’t know why that particular movie, but I’m sure we’d have a GREAT TIME. I mean, come on. As if his impressive range in anime and video games roles isn’t enough, the man is the voice of Tom Riddle in the Japanese dub. How cool is that?
  12. Even though I’m an English major, I totally suck when trying to figure out whether I should use the past progressive or past tense with verbs. Or things like “I got home and started running” instead of “I got home and ran.” adfhgosidfg. I’m a failure at grammar.
  13. I don’t like Star Wars. In fact, I hate watching the movies because they put me to sleep. It doesn’t matter if it’s the original trilogy or the new ones or whatever, I just secretly hate the whole thing. But yet, I love all the weird side crap that comes with the series, like the Legos video game and the various parodies on other shows and whatever. I always feel so guilty for hating Star Wars because, I mean, who else hates it? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
  14. I wish I could be the Real Slim Shady. For some reason, people are always really surprised when they find out I know all of Eminem’s songs by heart. I guess they don’t think a mousy Japanese girl who listens to the oldies station also listens to white rappers.

There’s a rule attached to this meme saying I have to tag people, but instead I’ll just let whoever wants to do it, do it. :P Wow, grammar is awesome.

It is SO HOT. Augh. Why do people like summer so much? It’s the worst season ever. afghsfdghsdth.
